Master Chief Petty Officer United States Navy, Vietnam Hometown: McArthur, Ohio Thomas Crow’s mother child while giving birth to him in 1934, and he was raised by his grandmother. He joined the Navy a few days after graduating high school in 1953, the start of a long and distinguished career. Trained as an aviation structural mechanic, he served
on the aircraft carries Saratoga
and Coral Sea, as well as
land-based aviation assignments. Crow rose to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, the fourth man to hold that title. He worked hard to advance sailors’ Navy experience and was highly respected by all who knew and worked with him, from the lowliest seamen to admirals. Retiring in 1982, MCPO Crow remained active in Navy issues, serving on several boards and associations. He died November 30, 2008 at his home in San Diego, California after a long battle with cancer.
