Steve Perkins enlisted the summer after graduating from high school and served as an infantryman with the 1^st Cavalry Division in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of South Vietnam, in 1971 and 1972. Upon returning stateside, Corporal Perkins was stationed at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he was assigned to the Academy’s rifle range as an assistant instructor.

After leaving the Army at the end of his three year enlistment, Steve Perkins attended college at Michigan State University, then was hired by the United States Postal Service, where he continues to work.
