Richard Havens was drafted in 1968 and attended Basic
Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He then received Advanced Individual
Training as an Infantryman at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
He served in Vietnam from late in 1968 until Christmas, 1969 with the 199th
Light Infantry Brigade. Richard received the Purple Heart for wounds
received in combat, and left the Army in early 1970.
He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation until he retired
in 2003. He now divides his time between his cabin in Wisconsin and a
winter home in Sarasota, Florida.
Richard is married and the father of six boys, five of whom have served
their country in uniform.
