Honor A Veteran
Lance Corporal United States Marines, Vietnam Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Raymond Smith joined the U.S. Marines the day after he graduated from high school in 1967 and volunteered for duty in Vietnam. He served in Quang Nam Province in 1967 -1968 and returned stateside in early 1969. His next assignment was as an assistant Drill Instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. When Raymond’s enlistment ended, he attended college in San Diego for two years, and then moved to Oakland, California, where he worked for several construction companies. Raymond returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh in 1980, and became a heavy equipment operator. He was killed in a traffic accident in 1991.
