Paul Cooper

Corporal

1st Marine Division

United States Marines, Korea

Hometown: Fort Wayne, Indiana

Paul Cooper hoped to turn his high school success on the football field into a career in professional sports, but his draft board had other ideas. When he received his draft notice, he decided that if he was going to be in uniform, it would be the uniform of the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted and was trained at Paris Island, then assigned to the 1st Marine Division.

Paul Cooper landed with the 1st Marines at Inchon, Korea in September, 1950. His next combat came when the 1st Marine Division was order to the Fusen Reservoir, where he saw heavy fighting and was wounded by shrapnel.

Promoted to Corporal, Paul Cooper served with the 1st Marines until he was injured in a Jeep accident and returned stateside.

When he left the Marines, Paul Cooper returned to Indiana and opened a farm implement dealership with his brother Wayne. He is now retired and spends his summers in Indiana and his winters fishing in Florida.
