Honor A Veteran Clem R Boody Corporal 1st Cavalry Division United States Army, Korea Hometown: Independence, Iowa For 57 years, the family of Clem Boody wondered what happened to him. Now he has come home. Boody was assigned to Headquarters Company of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in late 1950, when his unit was in a defensive position near Unsan, North Korea, at a curve bend in the Kuryong River called the Camel's Head. On November 1, two Chinese divisions attacked the heavily outnumbered Americans, forcing them to retreat. The next day Clem Boody was among 350 American soldiers listed as missing in action. There was no word of Boody until April, 2007, when the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea repatriated six boxes of human remains believed to be those of U.S. soldiers to American authorities. Korean officials said the remains had been excavated in November, 2006 near the Kuryong River. The Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons to identify Boody's remains. Corporal Boody was buried with full military honors on December 4, 2007 in his hometown of Independence, Iowa. Welcome home, Corporal Boody.
